The Dynamic Spud – Archway
by @robertbenparkinson
Last night I accidentally drank five pints of stout with my twenty-three-year-old cousin, who was visiting London from America, so this morning I was feeling a little rough.
When I finally managed to drag myself out of bed and opened the curtains, I was faced with something rather unexpected: nice weather. So, I decided to go for a little walk across North London to help pump some much-needed oxygen into my blood.
While out, I ran across The Dynamic Spud, a recently opened Irish café dedicated to everything potato, and I figured if there was one group of people who knew how to cure a hangover from drinking too much of ‘the black stuff,’ it was probably the Irish.
The cafe is located just down Archway Tube Station. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to any that with a name like ‘the Dynamic Spud,’ the café is a living, breathing, ode to the humble potato and the many wonderful things you can prepare with them. The café’s signature dish is the classic jacket potato. However, when I go to a new café I always go for a Full English Breakfast, but since this was an Irish café, I couldn’t pass up trying their Full Irish Breakfast all served on a potato. I was not disappointed.
🥄 Spoonometer Score: 3.6/5
Overall, the food was good, the staff was friendly, the service was fast, and if you love your potatoes like I do, you can’t go wrong with The Dynamic Spud.
Vibe — 4/5
For the sake of my sore head, I hit the café early on a Thursday morning when I knew it would be at its quietest.
Formica Flair — 4/5
It looks, smells, and sounds like a classic café.
Heritage Factor — 1/5
It’s a new café so it’s unfair to try to compare it to some of the ancient cafes around London.
Bargain-o-Meter — 5/5
You get a lot of potato for your buck.
Yum Factor — 4/5
Potatoes! Enough said.
